“We shall be coming home with our pockets stuffed with business cards from new acquaintances who may either become suppliers to our business or new customers. After the fair, we shall be following these contacts up,” Waag explains.

Bilfinger Industrial Services Norway AS and StressMan Engineering AS are two of the companies from Herøya who took part in the Subsea Valley Conference on 2 and 3 April. The companies are from opposite sides of the size spectrum: Bilfinger has 1430 employees in Norway, around half being based in the Grenland area. StressMan Engineering has five employees. Even so, the companies chose to join forces on the stand organised by Telemark Offshore.

The conference, held for the fifth time in the Telenor Arena, has strengthened its position as Norway’s foremost meeting place for the subsea industry. There are a total of 106 stands at the fair. Eleven companies from Telemark have joined forces in a shared stand under the aegis of Telemark Offshore.

Long-term work

“We have created a trade fair partition wall we use at offshore fairs. It’s new – only used a couple of times,” Marketing Manager Torger Waag says. “There are two people on the stand, who ensure that the company is visible and well represented at all times. There are also a number of interesting talks they want to catch.”

“What do you hope to get out of the fair?”

“We are trying to market Bilfinger and look for new supply areas. Bilfinger is not one of the biggest players, but the fair will allow us to make new contacts. This is long-term work – we meet new people and greet old acquaintances. The fair is a door-opener, and some of the contacts will end up doing business with us later on,” Waag says. “The aim is to increase Bilfinger’s supplies to the offshore market. To do so we have to be visible, for instance at these trade fairs.”

“What does Bilfinger hope to get out of participating in Telemark Offshore?”

“Bilfinger is an active player and is represented on the Telemark Offshore board. It has been involved right from the start in the cooperation arena. We believe that cooperation will result in more business,” Waag says. “Telemark Offshore allows us to market ourselves and to be more visible to potential customers and suppliers.”

He stresses that Telemark Offshore is also a way into other industrial clusters, such as Subsea Valley, Oslo Fjord Offshore Forum and NODE. The companies in Telemark County are located midway between these clusters. For this reason, Telemark Offshore is important for helping companies in Telemark to take a greater share of the offshore market.
